The Power of Derivative Works
Private
label products are works that have been written by
another author who spent a great deal of time researching the subject but had
no
passion for it. You have the ability to purchase private label products
such as ebooks and make them your own works. The process of doing this will be
discussed as go here and when we are finished, you will see how powerful this
can be.
The first thing you should understand is that, if you are going
to find and purchase a private label product and just turn around and sell it,
you are not going to make money. The real ability to make money comes from what
is called a derivative product.
Ebooks, Hardcopy and Audio
What is a derivative product? Good question.
A derivative product is the process of taking someone else's private label
(work
for hire) or public domain (copyright expired) and
making the material your own
work.
This will require you to do some fairly significant work to be able to make the
money that is possible to be made. The first thing you will need to do is get
new graphics. The reason for this is that everyone will be using the same
graphics that were purchased with the book.
You should also target
you ebook to your particular niche and then have the graphics geared
toward that niche market. Read through the ebook that you purchased and divide
it into sections and name the sections. Update the material that is in each
section so that it is current with all the latest information on the subject.
If
you are dealing with public domain books, they will be from around the 1920s
and
there have been many changes since then.
Then look at the material and consider the possibility for
articles or additional ebooks based on what you have set up at this point. Then
do your rewrite of the book so that is it current and
reflects your own personality.
Remember that the outline is the key to success for your new ebook because it
will help you organize your thoughts and potential markets for your
material.
You should also consider
value added options to go with your book. With each of the value added
options that you have available for your customers' purchase, the more money
you
will be able to make. If you have a hard copy of the book available to your
customer, they may choose to buy the hardcopy instead of the ebook. Some people
prefer the feel of a tangible book in their hands. You should also
consider having an audio book
version of your ebook.
Someone may want your book but they just don't have time to
read it but an audio version will allow them to listen to it while they are
doing other things. You have now taken your single ebook and have turned
it into three sources of revenue. There is another option to consider
when working on your derivative book product - video.
PowerPoint, Video and Audio
Video is
the next step in the process of creating your derivative book project. It is
recommended that you create about a 30 slide PowerPoint presentation and then
provide an audio track to go with it. This will allow you to have four
full products based on the purchase of a single private label ebook.
The process is also very similar when you are developing your derivative
product and you are starting with a source code you have purchased.
You have a coder that has the proper compiling software for the
source code you have purchased. Then you tailor it to your niche market. You
can develop ebooks, hardcopies, audio books and videos, all as owner's manuals
and training material for the source code you have released for sale. You can
offer bundled packages of your ebook and software or sell them all
individually. The cost can all be kept
very low by outsourcing anything you do not have time to do or know how
to do.
Market Yourself
Additionally, there are many ways to get the word out about the
product you have just created. The first is to have a well designed website
based on the ebook or software package you will be selling. Then you should get
involved in forums and talk up your product and your experience.
Be helpful and get to know people
and do some networking. Spend no more than a half hour of time doing it and
establish yourself as someone in the know.
This time will be time very well spent. You can make
connections
that will help you promote your product and
build relationship that will be
very helpful in the long term. The next big part of the process is going to be
the sales letter. You would have several that you have received for any
number of pother products. Look at the ones that you purchased products from
and
go from there. The sales letter should be written in a conversational style. In
other words, you need to write it in the same manner that you talk to
someone.
The sections that you define in your outline will be very
helpful in composing your sale letter. This is a skill that is important and
very hard to master. You should work at it and, if you know someone that is
good
at it, talk to them about doing your sales letter or at least reviewing it.
Take
your time and get it right, this is definitely something that you do not want
to
rush.
Go Wide - Go Deep
The final
thing to consider is the idea of "Go Wide" or "Go
Deep". Going wide is basically a shotgun approach in that you put a bunch
of
books out there and see what sells and then develop that area. Going deep is
taking your favorite niche and putting out a lot of product on it. Both
strategies work well and is more a case of personal preference.

products saves you a tremendous amount of time! The
products are already created - the work you have to do is minimal compared to
creating the products yourself. There is much success to be had through private
label products.
